Cat behaviour. If You Think You Own a Cat, You Are Kidding Yourself
According to the old saying a dog is mans best friend. Now I do not want to start a gender argument because I know lots of men have cats but traditionally a cat might be regarded more as a woman’s pet. Personally I do not think it matters what sex you are once you let a cat into your home it is going to quickly wrap you around its little paw and you will be at its beck and call forever.
Once a cat arrives in your household do not fall under the mistaken belief that you own your cat. Dogs may have masters but cats just have servants and that servant is you and the rest of your family.
A cat is a very intelligent animal that will make an excellent companion providing you do everything it wants you to do. Cats are also excellent communicators and can easily let you know when they want to go out, have the fire switched on or get a guest to vacate their favourite chair. You will quickly learn to understand cat behaviour.
Cats have considerable advantages over most other animals and many humans. They tend to be small and basically clean and tidy. Compared to other animals they are also relatively low maintenance and do not normally need taking for walks or to be trained.
If a cat is to be left on its own in the home for long periods it might be better to get a second cat to provide company. Cats, like humans can get bored if they are left on their own all day. It costs very little more to keep two cats than one and you should get twice the pleasure from them.
In Egypt cats used to be worshiped as Gods and to be honest I do not think they have ever completely got over this. I am sure the word Pamper was created to describe the way that cats like to be treated. Go around any pet store and you will find countless opportunities to pamper your pet. You will find special beds, climbing frames and scratching posts by the score. Innumerable food additives and toys just waiting for you to get your credit card out.
Having spent all this money on your beloved pet do not be too surprised if it ignores all the gifts and treats and spends its time jumping in and out of the cardboard box they came in.
Cats are like that, that is typical cat behaviour and don’t you just love them for it?
